I’ve been in love with photography for most of my life. My earliest memory is on vacation with my family – we were sitting by the pool about to have lunch, and I looked up over the grassy area next to the pool and thought “if I move a little to the right and angle up, that would make a great shot!”
And I think about that day all the time.
I took the plunge into photography for real in 10th grade when, after using and abusing my old school Canon ‘point and shoot’ digital camera, begged my dad to help me buy a “real” camera for my highschool photography class. He graciously conceded, did some research for me, and took me to Best Buy to buy my first DSLR: a Canon Rebel XS – which was basically out of model when I bought it. It cost $500 (the most expensive thing I could fathom at that age), and my dad made me a deal that we would split the cost and I would have to pay him back. It’s been 13 years, and I’m pretty sure I still owe him that $250. Thanks dad.
